Term 5

Our topic this term is ‘Ancient Egypt’. We are learning about what life was like in ancient Egypt and what the significance of the pyramids was.

So far, we have learned that the ancient Egyptians played a game called Senet. We made our own Senet game boards by using our maths skills of measuring accurately. We then used teabags to make the paper look like old papyrus. Papyrus was the type of paper the ancient Egyptians used.

We then built pyramids and worked out the perimeter for every layer of the pyramid.

In science, we are learning about plants and what they need to grow well. We have used old plastic bottles and turned them into planters. When we don’t need them anymore, they can get recycled. But, until then, we are reusing them as plant pots.

Term 4

The trouble with Dragons by Debi Gliori

Year 3 had a fantastic book week.  We dressed up as dragons, made dragons using pears, icing sugar and cashew nuts and learned why it is important to look after our world and everyone and everything in it. We’ve also looked at what we can do as a school and put together an action plan.

The Day the Crayons by Drew Daywalt

We had a great week, learning the story of the day the crayons left their owner’s pencil case! We pretended to be crayons, dressed up and wrote letters to our owner explaining why we were quitting!

Our topic this term is ‘ The Games Children Play’. We started by designing our own playground games and had fun coming up with our own rules.

We also looked at art work by Lowry and designed and planned our own Lowry inspired art work. We learned how to give the impression that people are closer or farther away by changing the size of them. Lowry used oil pastels and so did we. We tried our hand at the different techniques and effects we could create using oil pastels.

Who knew rocks could be so exciting?  Looking at and investigating rocks, we found out that there are many different types of rock with lots of different properties. We learned about the formation of rocks and fossils. Then, we had a go at making our own fossils using clay. What can you discover in our fossils?
